Briançon, Pont d'Asfelt

A Briançon, le Pont d'Asfelt, imaginé par Vauban, a été classé au Patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO le 7 juillet 2008.
Le marquis d'Asfeld, qui a succédé à Vauban et Le Peletier comme directeur général des fortifications de Briançon, décide de faire construire un pont en maçonnerie en 1720. La hauteur de la gorge ne permet pas de prévoir une pile pour limiter la portée de l'arc. On choisit donc de franchir la rivière La Durance par un pont d'une seule arche.
